Paraíso Tranquilo
For those looking elsewhere…
Are you looking to venture out of Playa del Carmen? Here are some other areas in the Yucatan Peninsula you may want to check out.
Cozumel
An island off the coast of the Riviera Maya is a popular cruise ship port of call with excellent snorkeling and diving along the coral reef. You can get to Cozumel by ferry from Playa del Carmen from the southern end of Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue).
Isla Mujeres
An island off the coast of Cancun is another area with excellent snorkeling and scuba diving along the reef. Isla Mujeres is home to the MUSA Underwater Museum, the largest underwater museum in the world.
Holbox
Isla Holbox is located in the north side of the Yucatan Peninsula and is home to flamingos and pelicans. This is a quiet fishing community with very few cars. A perfect place to escape from the tourist commotion.
Las Coloradas
This area is also located in the northern side of the peninsula on a stretch of land that separates the Gulf of Mexico from the lagoon Ria Lagartos. Here the water is a vibrant pink color due to red-colored algae, plankton and brine ship that thrive in the salty environment.
Sian Ka’an Biosphere
This nature reserve, near Tulum, filled with thousands of species of flora and fauna. Sian Ka’an was declared a World Heritage Site and remains the largest protected area in the Mexican Caribbean. Various nature tours are available including boat tours and floating down the Muyil River.
